Wedding Planning Update: One Year Engaged

Updated: Jun 17, 2018

It’s honestly hard to believe that just over a year ago, Peter asked me to be his wife. It felt like it was just yesterday. We were walking on the Cape Hatteras Beach at sunrise when he got down on one knee and popped the question. It felt like our wedding was YEARS away during that moment. But here we are, only 3 months away from the big day! I have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure it’s still real.

Since my last wedding update, we’ve done A LOT. For the longest time during our planning, it felt like we were just cruising along. We had booked all of the big stuff (venue, caterer, florist, etc.) but it was too early to worry about any of the small stuff. Then, all of a sudden, I realized we were only 5 months away from our wedding and it was probably time to get started with all of that small stuff.

In the last few months, here’s what we’ve accomplished!

Ordered Wedding Invitations

I’ve been using Minted for all of our wedding stationary and I absolutely LOVE them! It’s so simple to use and they have millions of options. Since I’m a graphic designer by day, a lot of people just assumed I would be designing our own invitations. But when I went to actually do that, I realized what I would end up designing would probably look extremely similar to another design off Minted. I saved myself some time and stress and was still able to get a beautiful collection that I love.

Chose Ceremony Music

We had been back on forth on this for awhile. Sitting on the couch, going through different songs on Spotify. But I think we’re finally done! Now we just have to choose reception songs which might be a little more difficult!

Cake Design

Originally, Peter and I didn’t want a cake. Since I’m gluten free, we thought it would just be too difficult and too expensive. Our minds totally changed when we met with our caterer who said it would be no issue at all to do a small gluten free cake for us to cut. We’ll also be having a dessert table of gluten-full macaroons and assorted cupcake flavors. Best of both worlds!

I had no idea what I wanted our cake to look like. I had scoured Pinterest for ideas and nothing really jumped out at me. That was until my future sister-in-law, Kristan, sent me a photo of a wedding cake her friend had done. She said she thought it was, “Very Colleen”. It was! I instantly sent it off to my caterer! We still have to order a cake topper but I’m pretty sure I have an idea of what I want that to be.

Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties!

Back in April, Peter headed off to Mount Hood in Oregon with his Groomsmen for his bachelor party. They spent the long weekend skiing and eating and drinking. Now it’s my turn! Next weekend I’m heading out to Charleston with all my best girlfriends and family for a fun beach weekend!

Still To Do

I feel like there’s still a million things to do and no time to do them! But a lot of it is just really purchasing items. Like gifts for our bridal party, a card box (any suggestions send my way!) and more stationary items. We still have to finalize our ceremony, though we did pick out a reading. And I’m sure there’s a hundred more things I’m forgetting but I’m confident it’ll all come together!

I just can’t believe our wedding day is almost here and I can’t wait to marry the love of my life!

xoxo
