My Skincare Story & Current Routine

Updated: Apr 3, 2018

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my skin. Ok, make that a HATE relationship. It was (and still is) a constant battle. I would blindly try new products and skin regimes HOPING and PRAYING it would clear my skin up. Sometimes it would but just for a small fraction of time and other times it’s like I wasn’t even trying.

Beauty isn’t always about how you look on the outside. Inner beauty is a powerful thing and negativity can make for an ugly person. But when you have a big ‘ol zit smack dab in the middle of your forehead, it can be a little hard to stay positive and practice that inner beauty. I know, personally, when I breakout it can instantly knock down my confidence. Even if it’s just a small pimple that most people won’t notice.

Lately I have really been trying to tackle my lifelong skincare problems. I’m getting married in just about 6 months (omg) and I want to make sure that I feel most confident on that day. Therefore, I’ve started investing more in my skincare products and skincare routine. I’m sharing it all below!

Disclaimer: I am no expert by any means. This is the routine I’ve been following for just about a month and it appears to be working for MY SKIN. Everyone’s skin can be different so please take that into consideration. Not everything I use will work the same for you!

To start, I have combination skin. Most days it’s just a little oily but some days I can have terrible dry patches. I tend to have consistent white heads along the bridge of my nose and random breakouts along my jaw/brow lines.

MORNING

I start out each morning by washing my face with the Biore Deep Charcoal Cleanser. I’ve been using this for a couple of years now and I’m totally obsessed. It’s kept my face clear of blackheads and does a great job of getting any excess makeup off my face. It also does a great job of clearing out your sinuses (lol).

Next, I spray my face with the Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray to give it a little moisture (plus it smells incredibleeee). Then I finish it out with some Olay moisturizer, nothing too fancy. I then continue on with my morning routine, applying all of my make up for the day.

NIGHT

Nighttime is where my skincare routine is amp'd up. I start by removing all of my make up with a Makeup Eraser. These things are pure MAGIC. It’s literally just a cloth you wet with warm water and rub your makeup of with. They are machine washable and can be used HUNDREDS of times. They’re also SUPER soft and don't irritate my skin whatsoever. I used to use your traditional makeup wipes that are a one time use and filled with chemicals. I was beyond excited when I discovered these. They not only work better for my face, they also work better with my bank account too.

Next, I move on to washing my face. I still use the Biore Blackhead Charcoal Cleanser but this time I use it in conjunction with my Soniclear Cleanser. I start by splashing my skin with water and rubbing the cleanser on my face. I then move the Soniclear Cleanser around section by section on my face. It beeps whenever you need to move to the next section, literally so helpful. Then you just rinse the excess off your face and voila! It has made my face so incredibly smooth and I feel it deep clean all of my pores.

The next step varies day to day. About 2-3 times a week I will use a face mask. I rotate between this clay charcoal mask (almost out, yikes!) and this mini peel face mask.

Then I will apply one of two different serums. One is this 10% benzoyl peroxide that’s just from Target. It helps to clear up any acne you may have. It’s definitely strong and can cause irritation if you’re not careful. I use this every other night all over my face in just a thin layer.

On the opposite nights, I’ll use the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. This I will just apply 1-2 drops on any problem areas I currently have.

I finish off my routine most nights with my Olay moisturizer. If I feel like my skin is a bit too dry, I’ll use this Neutrogena night cream instead.

Another product I use is the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. If I have a pimple or feel one coming on, I’ll apply this guy with a q-tip and leave it on overnight. Then I’ll rinse it off in the morning.

That’s it! My skincare routine in a nutshell. Let me know in the comments if you use any of these products or if you have any recommendations for products I should be using!
