How to Get the Most INCREDIBLE Engagement Photos

So you’re engaged, congratulations! One of the first big wedding planning steps you may be taking is planning out your engagement photos. For some this can be extremely exciting but for others, not so much. You may HATE how you look in photos. Or you’ve never had any professional photos taken. How does everyone always look so happy and flawless in their engagement photos? Today I’m sharing my top engagement photos tips so that you look great, feel great and LOVE your photos!

Pick the right Photographer.

This is more like a pre-step to your engagement photos. But I cannot stress enough how important it is to choose the right photographer! Don’t just choose whoever is the cheapest, easiest to contact, etc. Do your research to see what type of photography style you like and choose your photographer based on that style. Because bottom line: if you don’t love your photographer’s style, you won’t love your photos!

Outfit is Everything.

When you look good, you feel good! It’s something I always believe in. So pick something (or two things) that you feel comfortable and confident in! There’s no “rules” as to what you have to wear to your engagement photos. If you’re most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, wear that! If you’d rather wear a dress and heels, go for it! These are YOUR photos. Trust me, if you end up wearing something that you’re constantly pulling at or feel uncomfortable in, it’ll show in your photos. As for matching your fiance, go for a certain color scheme! We went for blues in one location and burgundy/navy in the other. It wasn’t too matchy-matchy but didn’t clash either.

Don’t Stress.

I know it can be hard not to (especially if you’re someone who hates being in front of a camera), but keep your cool. Don’t think about it too much leading up to the day or else you’ll psych yourself out. To keep yourself from stressing out during your shoot, try and forget your photographer is even there! Talk to your fiance, get them to tell you a joke! It’ll keep your nerves down and having you smiling in all your pics!

Keep it Moving.

One misconception people fall for is that when having your photo taken you should remain still until you move onto the next pic. FALSE. Keep moving your body around. Move your head, your arms and whole body around slightly and you won’t look so super stiff. This way you’ll look totally natural in all your photos. And don’t worry if you think you’re moving too much, I’m sure your photographer will let you know! Which leads us to...

Listen to Your Photographer.

Trust me, they know what they’re doing! You hired them because you love their photos. If they tell you to keep smiling or place your hand on your hip, just follow their lead. Most of the time they will know exactly what to do to make sure you look fabulous. So don’t worry about “Brainstorming Poses”, they’ll help you out every step of the way. And don’t be afraid to ask, “Hey so what am I supposed to be doing in this moment?” They will be sure to tell you!

Fake it til you Make it.

Okay so maybe you can’t calm your nerves or you wore that uncomfortable dress you shouldn’t have, then you have to just grin and bare it! Not everything is going to be perfect. We took our engagement photos at the end of September. The entire week had been beautiful, low 60s weather. Day of our engagement shoot, 89 degrees. We were sweating our butts off. But we pushed through, kept laughing and they turned out perfect! You can’t even tell that half my makeup was falling off!

If you stick to these tips, you should be smooth sailing through all of your engagement pics! Let me know if these work for you and how your photos turn out!
